Prajnaparamita
(Yum Chenmo)
Acrylic on Canvas, 2018
Private Collection
Prajnaparamita embodies the bliss/emptiness that gives rise to all phenomena—hence her title as The Mother of all Buddhas. This relates directly to her name in Tibetan as Yum Chenmo ( ཡུམ་ཆེན་མོ། ), Great Mother.
She appears as a seated figure clothed in silks; her body is gold in color, and she has one face and four arms. Her first two arms are held in meditation posture in her lap, while the other two hands hold a 9 pronged vajra (right) and the text of the Heart Sutra (Left) which is the essential text expounding on the Perfection of Wisdom (Prajnaparamita).
